My
work is best described as LyricalAbstraction. Expression of the
artist's emotion is the primary intention. Although much of abstract
art focuses on emotional content - lyrical abstraction is infused
with and conveys a sense of a larger spiritual outlook. The desire
is to communicate concepts, thoughts, ideas and emotions abstractly
- to discover and explore an elemental beingness within and beyond
our everyday reality. I find that there is a power within each
painting. A feeling of essence is evoked in a manner which is
graceful and lyrical - often creating a feeling of poetry on canvas.
Each is infused with a mystic sensibility as dimensions stretch
to infinity and reach for a connection to a higher, more esoteric
world.
"Lyrical abstraction is not a formal, specific school of
art. It is a term art critics have invented to differentiate abstract
works which present ideation and imagery versus those with no
relation to the natural world or pictorial allusion. There is
a balanced, aesthetic elegance one can immediately sense in lyrical
abstraction. Such works present viewpoints and convictions, but
are rarely sentimental; they may be lively and animated or subtle
and soothing, but above all, are charged with content."
My
paintings are concept centered: often presented in a series -
exploring a theme deeply, searching for variant nuances and resonant
chords. My aim is to ignite something in the viewer that sets
off a resonance within, invites their attention and draws them
inward -to join in a journey of discovery.
"Artists
seek to overcome the boundaries of life, to gain a kind of eternity
in their creative work amid the ephemeral days we humans pass
together."
